The first and the second episodes of Business Proposal took social media and all Korean drama fans by storm and surprised. These two episodes were released on February 28 and 1 April at 22.00 and scheduled on SBS TV and Netflix every Monday and Tuesday. It took social media by surprise based on a light-hearted story line, a perfect visual cast and an iconic scene.
Here are the details of why this drama took social media by storm and surprised me.
1. A light-hearted story lines
Basically, there is some rom-com Korean drama which has the similarity with Business Proposal and the plot may not be new, but the audiences still find the first two episodes enjoyable and fun to watch. Light-hearted, cute, refreshing, not filled with dramas like many other Korean shows lately, “Business Proposal” is simply a classic rom-com with chaotic and adorable characters. The office romance depicted in “Business Proposal” is not heavy with professional knowledge like “Forecasting Love and Weather” or realistic and depressing like “Thirty-Nine”. It can be said we need “Business Proposal” after watching “Forecasting Love and Weather” or “Thirty-Nine”
2. An iconic scene
A fun scene appears when Ji Young Seo asks Shin Ha Ri to go on a blind date with Kang Tae Moo to replace her and promises to pay Ha Ri with 800.000 won. Ha Ri accepts it because she has to pay a fine as her brother accidentally broke the man’s restaurant sign. Ha Ri has to make the blind date end with the guy who won’t marry Ji Young Seo.
Ha Ri and Young Seo decide to go shopping and choose which look and image Ha Ri should bring to the blind date. After a long discussion, Young Seo decides Ha Ri should go with a “tough girl” look that is essentially with hair extensions, heavy makeup, and club outfit.
The blind date starts when Ha Ri is caught by surprise after she first sees Kang Tae Moo visual face. All the chaotic actions she performed to make Tae Moo ill-feel with her, but it was not enough to scare him off. Ha Ri never gave up and she kept practicing all the steps to lose a guy in 10 minutes. The most comical and funniest scenes come when she claims she has breast implants named Rachel and Samantha.
This scene also has the remarkable and iconic lines performed by Shin Ha Ri when she said in Aegyo style, “Ogu baby nolascho, pupungecho, ouh gwenchana gwenchana.”
In South Korea, Aegyo also refers to a cute display of affection often expressed through a cute voice, changes to speech, facial expressions or gestures. Aegyo literally means behaving in a flirtatious, coquette-ish manner and it is commonly expected for both male and female K-pop idols.
3. A perfect visual cast
It goes without saying that Business Proposal drama has perfect-talented characters. Those are the young cast including Ahn Hyo Seop, Kim Se Jeong, Kim Min Kyu and Seol In Ah. Kim Se Jeong is famous for being the main character in a rom-com Korean drama. It is followed by Ahn Hyo Seop as Kang Tae Moo who acted as a perfect man who has the most perfect characteristics as a human being. After successfully acting in the Snowdrop drama, in Business Proposal Kim Min Kyu acted as Cha Sung Hoon, a secretary for Kang Tae Moo. He is very suited to the Webtoon’s character. The last is Ji Young Seo, Shin Ha Ri’s best friend from a rich family. Ji Young Seo was indirectly initiated and caused a bunches problem after it all. All of them suit their characters perfectly and impress the viewers with not only their great visuals but also natural acting.

Here also some viewers’ comments:
• I can’t stop re-watching the first 2 episodes. I laugh so hard every time. The webtoon’s drawing is very pretty. The drama is good too. It’s so fun to watch.
• Se Jeong’s pretty like a doll, I thought she was a rookie actress. Can’t believe she’s an idol. All the leading cast members have both the looks and good acting. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a great ensemble cast.
• I’m a fan of the webtoon. Ahn Hyo Seop and Kim Se Jeong were not what I imagined when I read the webtoon. But watching them is pure comedy.
• Monday is not scary anymore now that I know I get to watch “Business Proposal”
• The rich guy-ordinary girl trope is classic rom-com cliché, there is nothing new, but the plot of “Business Proposal” still feels refreshing somehow, the acting and effect makes it more fun. There are only 12 episodes, so I hope the drama can keep its quality until the end.
So, yeorobun, based on the enthusiastic from all fans about the first two episodes of Business Proposal, do you agree that this drama will be one of the most successful rom-com Korean drama this year?
