Episode 5 and 6: Hard Work and Dedication Pay Off
The fifth and sixth episodes of Twenty Five Twenty One depicted the characters' hard work and dedication finally pay off. These two episodes are aired on February 26 and 27. All fans can watch these two episodes on TvN or Netflix. The episode begins with the day when Hee Do finally becomes a part of participants
in the qualification’s match to join South Korea national fencer main team. The day before she plays, Yi Jin always shows
his support towards her and believes in her hard work. It is totally different
with Hee Do’s own mother who doesn’t show support to her and instead of asking
some questions regarding her progress at fencing, her mother thinks that Yi Jin
is her boyfriend who will makes Hee Do losing her focus on her study.
Finally,
the D-day comes when Hee Do nearly reach her dream. As Coach Yang expected that
day will be one of the historical days to see Hee Do’s victory and join
national team. The same as Hee Do, at that day, Yi Jin is also facing different
challenges when suddenly he receives a call telling his brother has been
threatening by his father’s colleague. It ends at the police station and shows
how frustrated Yi Jin is with his life.
Hee
Do is bursting to tell Yi Jin about her victory, but when she returns home, she
cannot find him, Yi Jin has already left the city. Yi Jin runs away to Pohang, his
mother’s hometown with his brother as he is so exhausted from receiving a lot
of discrimination in Seoul. Yi Jin just returned the sword from Hee Do before
he left and the handle painted blue because Hee Do really loves the colour and written
“National Team Member Na Hee-do” on the handle.
Na
Hee cannot hold her tears and no lie that she is so sad knowing her first
support system has left her without saying goodbye. However, life goes on and
she moves into the dorm at the national team’s training centre. In the dorm, Yu
Rim and her become a roommate. Just like usual, they argue many things and
never show respect to each other. At the national team training, Hee Do pushes
herself harder and harder. She never let anyone including her coach to see her
weakness until her hard work pay off when she as a newbie won the third place
at the match.
A
little bit different with Hee Do, at his mother hometown, Yi Jin is working at
a small bunder as a fish seller. There is no significantly different in Yi Jin’s
daily life, he is still surviving his hard life to make a change for his
family. Until one day he realizes that running away from Seoul cannot solve the
problem at all and make him like a loser. He also really misses Hee Do after
watching her in television when she receives bronze medal. He promises to Hee
Do that he will be there when the 15th editions of the Full House
comic was released.

The sixth episode shows five months have passed since Yi Jin returns to Seoul and becomes an intern at a television station as a news reporter. And Hee Do continues winning silver and bronze medals at multiple international competition. When the fifteenth edition of Full House comic was released, Yi Jin bought it and has a plan to meet and give it to Hee Do for the first time. One day, Yi Jin put reporting on a demonstration when he happens to spot Hee Do in the crowd. Their reunion is awkward and she invites him to join her for lunch with her boyfriend. Yi Jin shocks and he is taken aback that Hee Do has already have a boyfriend until he meets the boy and burst into laugh as both the boy and Hee Do have a very cringe interaction. Hee Do tells him that she will join Asian Games 1999 in Gyeongju South Korea soon.
At
the day Asian Games begins accidentally Yi Jin is being a news reporter there
in the fencing centre. He is happy as he will be watching Hee Do fencing every
day. Little by little, Hee Do defeat other athletes and goes to final. The gold
medal match is coming down to Hee Do vs. Yu Rim. It means all Hee Do dreams
come true when finally, she becomes Yu Rim rival.
However,
just a few hours before the match sets to begin, Hee Do realizes that her sword
from Yi Jin was mixed up with Japanese athletes. Hee Do panics because she
cannot continue the match without a sword from Yi Jin. She persisted her coach
and jumped on the train herself to get her sword back. After she gets her sword
back, her train has been delayed and her battery run out so she cannot contact
anyone to help her.
When
Yi Jin is given a job from her boss to the station, he rushes to meet Hee Do
first and immediately brings her to the fencing arena. Yi Jin drives his car
like an insane to make sure Hee Do not being late for the match. On the way
back to fencing arena Hee Do tells Yi Jin that she breaks up and her
relationship with his boyfriend is only three days. She explains to Yi Jin that
she only dated the boy because she wanted to experience a breakup that so many
songs talk about.
Highlight
Moment: Na Hee Do’s Big Dream Come True
Na
Hee Do is starting to grow up little by little likewise her dreams that slowly,
one by one comes true. In the previous episode, Hee Do has already won the
match that made her join the qualification for national team. And in the fifth
episode she won again and succeeded to join South Korea national team which
means she is nearly with her biggest dream to meet Yu Rim as a rival. At the
national team dorm, she never lets herself to stop practicing even though she
is not in a good condition. She never lets anyone including her coach to see
her weakness. Hee Do is working hard more than anyone can think.
After
joining some matches, she won the bronze medal and followed with the silver
medal. It is amazing achievement as a newbie in the national team. She learns
the importance of strong support system. In every competition, she is armed
with both self-confidence rooted in her own hard work, and words of confidence
from Yi Jin and Coach Yang.
Finally,
after dreaming about this moment for so many years, Hee Do steps out to face Yu
Rim as her rival. At this moment she shows of her hard work and dedication
finally pay off.
Highlight Moment: Relationship Progress Hee Do and Yi Jin
As
on the recap of two episodes have explain, both of Yi Jin and Hee Do are
experienced about the sad thing of lost, especially when Yi Jin left Hee Do
without any permission or even says goodbye. Yi Jin romantically returns her
sword and paints the sword with Na Hee Do’s favourite colour before he left
her. As this thing happens, Hee Do never forgets to bring and use the sword in
every competition. Even though there is no Yi Jin on her side, she believes Yi
Jin is doing whatever is best for himself.
Hee
Do asks Seung Hwan to bring all Yi Jin sound recordings to hear when she misses
him at the national dorm. She always listens to Yi Jin sound when she is
exhausted and gets a better mood after that. At different places, Yi Jin also
does the same. He really wants to meet Hee Do, to cheer up when she is going
down. Yi Jin feels he lost something after leaving Seoul and cannot see Hee Do.
Yi
Jin always goes to a payphone to hear a sound record sent by Hee Do and he
always plays it again and again until his coins run out but he is always afraid
to reply it. The same with Hee Do, she always waiting Yi Jin to reply her
message until finally one day she hears a message from Yi Jin that he will be
there when fifteenth editions of Full House released.
The emotional scene also comes when they are
accidently met in the crowd of a protest. Their reunion is awkward, jubilant
and sentimental at the same time. Yi Jin really shows his support especially
when he rushes to the station to meet and bring Hee Do and calm her down
heroically whisked her back to the competition.
